About the Item

Triglifo is an elegant statuette entirely realized in ceramic as a part of a 12 columns series designed by Alessandro Mendini and produced by Superego in the early 2000s. The sculpture is signed and numbered under the base. The Triglifo column was released in a limited edition of a 50-pieces series, this series was inspired by the iconic elements of ancient greek and roman classical architecture. Triglifo or Triglyph is an architectural term referring to the vertically channeled tablets on the Doric frieze in classical architecture, and it's so-called because of the angular channels in them. Alessandro Mendini was an Italian designer and architect. He played an important part in the development of Italian, Postmodern, and Radical design. He was interested in mixing different cultures and different forms of expression. His works wandered between graphics, furniture, interiors, paintings and architecture and he also worked for Domus, Modo and Casabella magazines. Alessandro Mendini was awarded several international prizes, including the Compasso d’Oro in 1979,1981 and in 2014. He held an honorary title from the Architectural League of New York as well as the title of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres from the French Republic.
