About the Item
Amber Resin Fractal in the style of Francois Godebski, ca 1970s
Very cool resin sphere in an amber color, unsigned, but certainly has all the hallmarks of Francois Godebski sculpture. A fantastic decorative sculpture for tabletop, console, or desk.
Some wear in the manner of fine scratches to the base as expected for a vintage item.
François Godebski, born in 1940 in Bellegarde, comes from a family where artists have been passed down from father to son for several generations. He is a painter like his father and a sculptor like his grandfather.
At the age of 18, he left for Paris to study architecture, and quickly became bored with this profession. He wished to devote himself completely to his art. At the same time, he followed an artistic training consisting of painting courses at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris.
It was when he was working for a craftsman who made artificial flowers that François Godebski discovered polyester resin, an element that he used for various sculpture. But the artist is a jack-of-all-trades and does not concentrate on a single material; he creates works made of all sorts of elements, form electronic circuits to sculptures in fractal resins, for which he is best known.
His works are part of the New Realist movement, his first sculptures date from 1962 and his approach is considered avant-garde.
