Enameled Resin and Metal Pop Art Sculpture in Sunflower Yellow, Bubble Gum Pink

About the Item

This idiosyncratic and powerful sculpture, with its vibrant color scheme and dynamic form, encapsulates all of the energy of pop on an intimate scale. The enamel green base with black veins (fabricated to resemble marble) evokes a cartoonish bomb, while the colored bubble-gum pink and Stark sunflower yellow metal geometric protrusions suggest stylized flames exploding in a style reminiscent of the work of Roy Lichtenstein. This dynamic sculpture, executed in the late 1960s, offers a forward looking palate that foreshadows the bright, bold objects of Memphis design. The comic form and vivid palate of the work also recalls 1970s Brit pop artists such as Allen Jones and Peter Phillips. It would be a winning objet d'art atop an occasional table or desk. American, circa 1965 Dimensions: 9"W X 6.75"H X 4.5"D.
