About the Item

Kjell Engman Kosta Boda Sweden Art Glass Sculpture on Lighted Base This glass sculpture is reminiscent of Kjell Engman's "Inside" series, circa 2002-2005. Engman designed this sculpture with a window revealing the secret world inside. The exterior of this piece appears as a trenchcoat of blue/green/yellow cased glass, with the lower front edge sliced and polished to reveal a floating figure inside. The sculpture is signed and numbered on the underside: "2013 Kosta Boda Kjell Engman Limited 300 ck." The piece is in very good vintage condition. The sculpture sits on a black wooden lighted base with an in-line cord switch. Kjell Engman (b. 1946) was born in Stockholm, Sweden and studied at the University of Arts, Crafts & Design and at the famous Pilchuck Glass School near Seattle, Washington. He has been active as a glass artist and designer at Kosta Boda since 1978. Engman's glass art is characterized by bold colors, generous and playful shapes and the constant presence of whimsy and humor. He strives to offer joy and fantasy through his glass creations. In Engman's words, "I really don't enjoy titling my works. I don't want to guide the viewer; rather, I want everyone to create their own fantasy world." Engman is from a family of musicians, and has a background as a professional rock musician. He considers his installations to be movies without dialogue--as though he is the director and the glass figures are his actors, his artists. He strives to give viewers a multi-sensory experience, to stimulate their creativity, and invite them to make different interpretations. Measurements are as follows: Glass sculpture is 7" W x 9" H Lighted base is 8" L x 3.5" W x 2" H
