About the Item

Large Abstract Stoneware Sculpture by French artist Hervé Rousseau. Signed inside. This sculptural piece, created in the 2000s, showcases Rousseau’s distinctive approach to ceramics—marked by primitive, archaic forms inspired by nature and instinctive gestures. In 1980, Rousseau built a traditional wood-fired kiln, and his travels, especially in Africa, as well as his encounter with Japanese potter Ryoji Koie in 2005, further deepened his raw and expressive relationship with clay. His method emphasizes spontaneity and gesture, resulting in powerful, body- and landscape-like forms. Each work is a unique expression of tactile immediacy. This sculpture was featured in the exhibition Hervé Rousseau: La trace du vent at the Musée La Piscine in Roubaix, March–April 2015. Literature: Hervé Rousseau: Le feu dans la terre, Éditions Ateliers d'Art de France, Frédéric Bodet & Bernard David, March 2015, pp. 88–89. DV2340
