Large sculpture Chimera by Marcello Avenali

About the Item

Work by the artist Marcello Avenali (1912-1981). Steel and glass sculpture, created in 1969. In 1970, it was reproduced for an installation for Banco Santo Spirito (Vatican Bank) at its headquarters in Rome, Piazza del Quirinale, and later dismantled in 1980. Produced in 36 examples, the structure was placed in alignment with two large window spaces (180x360 cm). Characteristics: Circular steel band, with 12 brass supports on the outer side, to which adjustable steel slats are fixed. On the inner side, there are 24 adjustable brass and steel supports that hold an amber-colored glass parallelepiped, with varying shades. The possibility of adjusting all the transparent and reflective elements allows the structure's configuration to be freely modified, and, with the addition of a light source, to create various lighting and filtering effects. The dimensions are a diameter of 60 cm for the circle with open slats and a base of approximately 100 x 90 cm, with a depth of 20 cm. Period photographs, a certificate and evaluation from the foundation, and a certificate from the glassworks "Manifattura d'Arte del Vetro di Felice Quintin" (Florence) are available. Packaging with bubble wrap and cardboard boxes is included. If the wooden packaging is needed (fumigated crates or boxes) for US and International Shipping, it's required a separate cost (will be quoted separately).
