Pequi Sculpture by Pedro Ávila

About the Item

In the collection Delicadeza e Brutalidade, the sculptural furniture explores the essential duality between romance and violence, beauty and aggression. Materials such as marble, stainless steel, stone, and parchment embody these tensions — the contrast between the monumental and the fragile, the ancestral and the contemporary. The works evoke contradictory desires: to possess delicacy while confronting the brutality inherent in the act of shaping it. Rather than offering answers, they celebrate the coexistence of opposing forces, such as harmful beauty or the pain of affection. Like a carnivorous plant, they attract and confront in a single movement, revealing violence within delicacy and vulnerability within what is harsh. In a self-reflective view of design, the collection approaches the act of extraction — from stone, from nature, from ideas — as a metaphor for creation itself. For something to live, something must die: an inescapable truth crystallized in sculptural form. Each piece holds within it the tension of opposites, as a necessary balance for existence. Contradictory sensations not only coexist — they define one another. In a world where sovereignty often manifests as war, and beauty can carry the potential to harm, Delicadeza e Brutalidade embraces contradiction as the very essence of being and making.
