Play With Me, No Really in and Black or White
About the Item
This series was conceived as a way for the Collector to really interact with a work of art. Titled "Play With Me, No Really" it refutes the idea that "Art" must sit alone on a pedestal and cannot be touched. Here you can! Rearrange the blocks as you desire whenever you desire. This "play" engages a meditative moment and inspires creative energy in the player. The solid blocks are hand formed by the Artist from 2 or 3 different types of clay. Here the artist used a dark stoneware and a light sculpture body to add texture to the white-glazed blocks. The dark blocks are coated in a rich clay slip. No two are exactly the same.
This set contains 7 blocks. Sizes vary and range from approximately 1 1/2 x 1 inches to 3 x 1 inches tall. Included in the photos below are images of them in various combinations but you can let your own imagination fly! Not recommended for young children.
Please note: dimensions depend on the way the pieces are laid down together. Recommend odd numbers for more dynamic 'play'.

Helena Starcevic Ceramics
Helena Starcevic Ceramics produces work that straddles the line between fine and decorative art. Each piece is one of a kind, hand-built entirely by the artist in her New York studio. Taking inspiration from the natural world, Ms. Starcevic's work includes references to the stark beauty of the desert, prehistoric cave paintings, and the human form (within and without). Everything is filtered through Ms. Starcevic’s own singular aesthetic, at once quiet yet strong, meditative, and beautiful. Pieces are made in different clays and finishes, and at different scales. Groupings are available. Helena Starcevic’s ceramic pieces are held in private collections across the US and Europe. She has held numerous residencies including one at the Museum of Art and Design in New York City.

"Double Play, " Sculpture Capturing Dramatic Baseball Play with Male Nude, 1953
By Joe Brown
Located in Philadelphia, PA
A brilliant piece of sculpture capturing one of the most dramatic moments in American baseball, this 1953 bronze by Joe Brown shows a baseball player touching second base with his right foot and readying to throw the ball to first base for the second out with his right arm. The figure is cantilvered over the wood base, and the placement of his arms and legs is dancelike in its grace and strength. Brown has captured the tension of his torso and limbs and the beautiful musculature of the man's back, reminding the viewer that he learned from the master of American athletic sculpture...
