About the Item

A unique studio glass object from his "Contiguous Fragments" by Joel Philip Myers made in 1987. Myers was born in Paterson, NJ in 1934. He graduated as a M.F.A. from New York State College of Ceramics and in the 1960s, Myers was Director of Design at the Blenko Glass Company. In the 1970ties he became professor of art at Illinois State University. Around this time he started creating unique glass vessels in Marqueterie technique in his own studio. This is a typical work from the Contiguous Fragment Series. A signature Myers shape, an opaque white inner layer, huge shards, perfectly inserted and composed with similar inserted canes to an abstract work of art. The body is partially sandblasted and frosted. This work is signed, numbered and dated to 1987 and a great example of the abstract and colorful work, which was Myers recognition factor until circa 1990. It weighs 14,2 kg.
