About the Item

Contemporary American sculptor Wendy Hendelman's Tiger's Eye Head Sculpture on marble base. Hendelman’s work reflects her love of the primitive and the ancient. The small scale and style have established her identity as a sculptor as was recognized in the following press release by a Parisian art dealer: “For me, the most astonishing element within each of Hendelman’s stone figures is that she has enabled the stone to speak in understated harmony. Aside from restrained carving, it is impossible not to surround the figures with visions of a heroic and compelling human journey. In Hendelman’s work, it is the breath of life within the cold artifact that makes the journey irresistible and rewarding.” Etched signature on back: [Hendelman]. The measurements for the sculpture only are 10" H x 14" W. This sculpture ships directly from the artist’s studio in New York. Artist's brief bio: Native New Yorker and artist Wendy Hendelman grew up surrounded by art. The highly praised prote´ge´ of renowned sculptor Chaim Gross who once called her gift “unique”. Studying under the great teachers Jose´ de Creeft and Andrea Grassi, and having held residence at Italy’s famed Pietrasanta, her work was most recently profiled by Anthony Haden-Guest and has shown in galleries worldwide.
