A Ysermans abstract clay sculpture Netherlands 1978

About the Item

Large impressive abstract sculpture made by Anja Ysermans in the Netherlands in 1978. This off-white/beige sculpture is made of painted clay supported by a wooden base plate. The work consists of two clay pieces, hand sculpted in an organic form. The large piece has a C-shape with three protruding elements. The smaller piece has a more abstract form. They beautifully relate and seem to fit each other. The work is purchased directly from the artist in 1978. Hand signed and dated at the bottom of the wooden plate. In very good original condition. Anja Ysermans' spatial work often consists of multiple materials. Material that has already had a life is placed in a new context and made into an assemblage. In addition to these assemblages, Anja Ysermans also makes bronze sculptures, steel sculptures and clay sculptures. Monotype, egg tempera, collage and acrylic are used in the flat surface. These are sometimes combined into mixed media work. Or they are further developed into digital work using a smartphone or computer. And then printed on watercolor paper, canvas, aluminum or plexiglass. The subjects in Anja Ysermans' work are often naturalistic. Such as the human shape, heads and house shapes. These shapes are abstracted or deformed. Sometimes the figuration disappears and the work is completely abstract.
