Bronze sculpture “Le Colleone” after Verrocchio – 19th century

About the Item

Beautiful bronze sculpture with a medal patina depicting the Condottiere Bartolomeo Colleoni. This bronze equestrian statue originally stood on the Campo dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo in Venice, opposite the Basilica of San Zanipolo. It is the work of the Florentine sculptor Andrea Del Verrochio, who worked on it from 1483 to 1488, and of Alessandro Leopardi, who cast it after his death. This 40 cm bronze is stunning. The charismatic rider, with his haughty bearing, stands upright on his mount. His finely chiseled armor is highlighted. He wears a helmet reflecting the light. This work is a perfect testament to the past. Its presence attracts attention and will appeal to lovers of Venetian art. ******** Period: Late 19th century Excellent condition.
