Ancient Egyptian Revival: 19th century, carving of Horus in the form of a falcon - Beautifully carved classical composition in low relief - Depicting Horus, one of the earliest and most important Egyptian gods in the form of a falcon. Showing his right eye as the sun or morning star, representing power and Quintessence; his left eye was the moon or evening star representing healing - Finely carved with a variety of techniques and textures in the different levels of the carved relief. - Decorative and symbolic harmonizing with both period and contemporary interiors - Made at a time of renewed interest ancient Egypt as a result of Napoleon's Egyptian Campaign (1798-1801) and the extensive scientific study of ancient Egyptian remains and culture inspired by this Campaign .
