About the Item

Kaija Aarikka “Passi” Aries Sculpture, Finland, 1973 A rare and charming wooden Aries sculpture, designed in 1973 by Kaija Aarikka and hand-crafted in Finland from warm-toned grenen hout (pine wood). Known as “Passi”, this piece is part of Aarikka’s beloved zodiac series and symbolizes vasthoudendheid (perseverance) and positiviteit (positivity). The sculpture captures Aarikka’s signature design language: playful yet sculptural, organic yet disciplined. Its rounded, rhythmic surface structure and bold form give it both a tactile and visual warmth, making it a timeless collectible object. Dimensions: Height: 14 cm (5.5 in.) Width: 14 cm (5.5 in.) Depth: 19 cm (7.5 in.) About the Designer Kaija Aarikka (1929–2014) was a pioneering Finnish designer celebrated for her innovative use of wood in both jewelry and objects. Founding Aarikka Oy in 1954, she created a playful, modernist design language that drew on Scandinavian minimalism while infusing it with a distinctly organic softness. Aarikka’s works are widely recognized for their rhythmic repetition of forms, often spheres and geometric shapes, crafted in wood. Today, her designs are considered icons of Finnish modernism, sought after by collectors worldwide. A delightful addition to any Scandinavian design collection, this Aries “Passi” embodies the warmth and optimism at the heart of Aarikka’s work. Colors may slightly vary due to photographic lighting sources or your monitor settings. Wear consistent with age and use. The Aries will be shipped insured overseas. Cost of insured transport to the US is Euro 125 included.
