About the Item
A large and rare antique Austrian gilded bronze desk set/sculpture, modeled as a Pug dogs with her two puppies, documented, circa 1910.
To the center is a mother pug flanked by two pug pups, they sit before an empty handled feeding bowl. The heads are hinged and each contains a gilded metal liner, the mother dogs liner for pens the two pups for ink and sand. The bronze is very finely cast by the 'lost wax' (cire perdue) method and is finely gilded throughout, condition is excellent.
This is a very rare bronze and is featured in Michael Forrest's 1988 book "Art Bronzes" on page 446.
