About the Item
Magnificent Murano glass sculpture depicting a bull, entirely handcrafted using the renowned “sommerso” technique. This process consists of layering contrasting colors encased in a transparent glass shell, without blending, creating optical depth and chromatic harmonies of striking intensity. The “sommerso” technique, introduced in the 1930s by Carlo Scarpa for Venini and perfected in the 1950s by Seguso Vetri d’Arte, stands as one of the finest achievements of Murano glass artistry. This piece was created between 1970 and 1975, a period marked by bold experimentation with color and form, yielding works of remarkable refinement. The word “Murano” is engraved on the underside of the animal. While unsigned, the style gracefully recalls the creations of V. Nason & C. and Gino Cenedese, both renowned for their zoomorphic sculptures in sommerso glass, confirming its roots in the finest Murano tradition. The sculpture is dominated by the deep red crystal, enhanced by submerged layers that evoke dynamic, swirling movements. A thin sheet of gold, applied during the gathering of the molten glass and encased in an additional layer, was fragmented during the blowing process, dispersing into countless luminous particles. This refined technique produces a golden dust effect within the glass, enriching the piece with discreet brilliance. Perfectly balanced between strength and elegance, the sculpture reflects changing light effects that transform its presence into an almost magical display, depending on the illumination. An exceptional decorative accent, it is ideally suited for refined interiors, whether placed on a contemporary bookshelf or on an entryway console.Condition: Excellent.
