About the Item
To confront her childhood fear of reptiles, Surving sculpted an iguana, which proved to be an epiphany that would lead her to a life of sculpting hyper-realistic reptiles. From miniatures to larger-than-life installations for museums and Disney attractions, with a few editioned collaborations with icons like Boehm along the way.
This particular piece is a whimsical play on a temperance jug. Two surly iguanas guard a bug cork stopper that, in times past, would lead to libations.
Signed with the artist’s monogram and dated on reverse, 1984.
