Pair of Book Saws Depicting Parrots, Portugal
About the Item
Pair of book saws depicting parrots. Carved from coloured marble stone, they are depicted perched on a rectangular base, also made of stone, serving as a support. The birds are turned slightly to opposite sides, creating symmetry when placed face to face. The natural colours of the stone vary between shades of green, pink, yellow and brown, forming a marbled effect. The eyes are small and bright, yellow in colour, bringing the figures to life.
The pieces show slight signs of wear, with small chips at the base, but retain their integrity and decorative function. Objects like these were common in interior decoration from the mid-20th century onwards, combining functionality with exotic ornamentation. Made to hold books on a shelf or simply as a decorative element.
