L’opera è di ottima fattura, senza alcun tipo di imperfezione e non è stata oggetto di restauro. Essa raffigura un cervo adulto con due grandi corna e il manto della colorazione tipica dell’animale, in posizione di riposo.
La particolarità che contraddistingue questo oggetto risiede nella presenza allo stesso tempo di: un bollino nella sua parte superiore riportante il marchio dell’azienda e l’indicazione della sua derivazione da Vienna, e un timbro sul fondo riportante la scritta “Made in Germany” inserito nella ceramica. Questa è una rarità significativa, che rimanda al contesto storico in cui l’oggetto è stato prodotto. Nel 1938, l’Austria era stata annessa alla Germania nazista, tramite il processo noto come Anschluss. Considerato che la Germania sarebbe entrata in guerra l’anno successivo, si può dedurre che l’opera sia stata eseguita con molta probabilità esattamente nell’anno 1938. Considerate tali caratteristiche, oltre ad un valore decorativo, l’oggetto possiede senz’altro un valore in quanto pezzo degno di nota per un collezionista di ceramiche.
La Goldscheider è un'importante fabbrica viennese fondata nel 1885 a Vienna per la produzione di porcellane, che ha raggiunto presto una grande crescita e che è divenuta poi un punto di riferimento internazionale anche nel campo della ceramica e del bronzo. Inizialmente l'azienda si occupava di repliche in porcellana e in bronzo che si rifacevano a vari stili. Nel XX secolo, la fabbrica introdusse la produzione di massa ma mantenne la caratteristica qualità della sua produzione. Aumentò di conseguenza l'interesse della fabbrica per le nuove invenzioni e per il gusto del suo target. La Goldsheider acquisì fama anche grazie alle collaborazioni con importanti artisti della porcellana del tempo. Il suo successo, tuttavia, subì una battuta d'arresto proprio del 1938, in quanto cominciò a trattare temi di propaganda nazista.
Contrariamente, nonostante risalga allo stesso periodo, l'opera qui proposta rappresenta un soggetto riconducibile al contesto naturalistico austriaco: ovvero un cervo, un animale che tipicamente vive nelle foreste dell'Austria e del Tirolo.
