About the Item
Amazing, sizeable and unique bull sculpture.
This unique sculpture of a charging bull is totally in a style of its own and it is in excellent condition. This truly is the work of an artisan with a capital A. The patina of this solid teakwood sculpture and the horns of lucite combined with the early Art Deco elements make us date it to 1910-1920. Anyone with this much talent should have an entire range of sculptures of all sorts of animals and other figures, but we cannot find resembling art of this shape and quality anywhere in the world.
The size and shape make it the perfect eye-catcher and talking piece and it truly is a joy to watch (from all angles). Although it is signed with the name Picasso, this just does not seem to fit in with the style of the famous Pablo Picasso. On the bottom (see image 10) there also is a small monogram in the letters JC. If this is the work of a so called 'one day fly' then the good lord himself must have intervened, because this sculpture is in a league of its own. We hope it too (like many of our antiques) will go to a good home and to somebody who recognizes the uniqueness, the quality and the unmistakeble and timeless beauty.

This skillfully executed hand carved figural bull is fully dimensional and has a rich brown color. The bull is depicted in a standing position atop a shaped wooden plinth. The muscular animal has been finished with realistic detail with particular attention given to the bull's facial features and folds of skin. The plinth itself is slightly domed at the center and bears carved elements which include a large rock and stylized plants.
The bull measures 8" tall and the base is 10.75" x 4.125". It weighs 1lb 15oz. The carved bull is in very good vintage condition with no cracks or signs of wear.
