A very large and important bronze figure of an elephant by Genryusai Seya, Meiji Period (1868-1912), late 19th century Naturalistically cast, the elephant crying out in rage as he is under attack from three tigers, two clawing up his back, the other being trampled underfoot, its tusks of bone, signed in archaic seal dai Nihon Genryusai Seiya zo, with a separate carved wood stand 102 by 58 cm., 40 7/8 by 23 in. including base.
