A Fine Grand Tour Style Bronze Bust of a Greek Philosopher After Mathurin Moreau

About the Item

This finely modelled Hellenistic inspired portrait bust is likely that of the Greek philosopher Chrysippus of Soli - regarded by scholars as the 2nd founder of the School of Stoicism. The figure shown draped in classical robes atop a waisted socle affixed to a squared base, the reverse bearing an impressed signature for Mathurin Moreau (1822-1912) together with impressed numerals 1709, exhibiting a fine medium-dark brown patina overall.
