About the Item

A bisque sculpture, “Bust of a Child” by Aime Jules Dalou, edited by Sevres. Beautiful detail. “Bust of a Child" by Aimé-Jules Dalou (1838-1902). This bust was initially modeled by Dalou as a study for a larger figural group commissioned by Queen Victoria in 1878 to commemorate the death of her grandchildren, Harold and Mary. The original marble version of the bust is housed in the Petit Palais, Paris. The piece demonstrates Dalou's creative process and technical skill through its naturalistic modeling of the child's features. The bust was also exhibited as an independent work at the Paris Salon of 1891 and was popular enough to be cast in bronze in two sizes
