Bust of Francisco Sá Carneiro. With a dark finish and rough texture, the sculpture shows the politician with a serene expression, wearing a suit and tie, represented up to half of his chest which rests on a simple, angular base.
A commemorative or decorative piece, probably made to honour the Portuguese politician
Francisco Manuel Lumbrales de Sá Carneiro. He was born in Porto, Santo Ildefonso, on 19 July 1934 and died while acting as prime minister in the Camarate bombing on 4 December 1980 in a plane crash in Loures. He was a Portuguese lawyer and politician, founder and leader of the Popular Democratic Party/Social Democratic Party, and also Prime Minister of Portugal for around eleven months in 1980, having started his political career in 1969 as a member of the National Assembly under the Estado Novo.
