About the Item

Ceramic sculpture model China designed by Sandra Virlinzi for collective Ultrapop and produced by Superego Editions. Limited edition of 44 pieces. Signed and numbered. About Ultrapop Aliens, zombies, monsters, Robots, cyclops and freaks are the protagonists in an exhibition of contemporary art “Ultrapop Ultracolor” which opens at the Museo di Arte Contemporanea in Villa Croce in Genoa. Comic strip imagination on full power animates the work of Dario Arcidiacono, Giordano Curreri, Antonio Sorrentino and Sandra Virlinzi, four young artists from Catania and Genoa who have been working together for a number of years under the name Ultrapop. This unusual exhibition at Genoa brings together over forty pieces of “ironic frights”, most of which are being shown for the first time. Biography Sandra Virlinzi was born in Catania in 1973. He studied in Rome and in 1997 he moved to Milan where he began working for the world of publishing, design and web publishing. In the same year, together with Arcidiacono, Curreri and Sorrentino, he founded the 'Ultrapop' group and until 2005 he was part of it, presenting his painting works with them in numerous group exhibitions. Meanwhile, it tries to apply itself in the realization of different types of projects, such as: internet sites, set-ups, short films, ceramic objects, stickers, prints, booklets, light sculptures, leather accessories, stuffed puppets, picture boxes and the first sculpture puppets. It is in April 2006, in Brescia, on the occasion of his third solo show that he officially presents his new project with the name of 'FreakFriends' (monster friends) and at the same time publishes his website always with the title of Freak Friends, a name that had already appeared for the first time with the 2002 edition of its small promotional auto book. In July 2006, he curated the collective exhibition 'Tele da Sdraio' in Catania, during the 'Vulcanology' International Festival of Music and Art, involving many of the artists known around the Milanese scene. At Pac, Pavilion of Contemporary Art in Milan, the 'Street Art Sweet Art' exhibition has just ended, where he presented his latest works at the PopUp art shop section. In Milan he had the opportunity to meet and present his works alongside prominent figures such as Elio Fiorucci, Alessandro Mendini, Gaetano Pesce, Massimo Giacon and many others. His work has been repeatedly reviewed in newspapers and magazines such as: GQ, Edizioni Conde Nast, Corriere della sera, la Repubblica, Panorama, Arte Mondadori, Exibart, Tema Celeste, Flash art, etc.
