Charles Lemoyne Art Deco Bronze The Finish Runner Sports Sculpture, circa 1920

About the Item

French artist Charles Lemoyne designed this stunning, tall sports memorabilia sculpture. The figurine boasts a cast bronze finish line runner. The typical Art Deco model is detailed and has a strong presence. This piece presents an interesting subject of sports memorabilia, featuring an athlete in action. The artifact retains its original deep green patina, a testament to its age and historical significance. This rich, dark green hue adds character to the piece, enhancing its authenticity and visual appeal. The base is in black and gray Portoro marble. The incised signature is visible on the plinth and reads "Lemoyne". Measurements: 15.75 in wide (40 cm) x 14.57 in deep (37 cm) x 23.62 in high (60 cm) Note: Charles Lemoine/Lemoyne (1839 - 1943?). Charles Lemoine or Charles Lemoyne, both signatures can be found on sculpture pieces. Charles Lemoyne was a French artist born in 1839. His works have been sold at public auction in Europe 34 times, mainly in the sculpture category. The oldest recorded sale is for a sculpture depicting a man killing an octopus, which was presented at Sotheby's in 1989. His works were presented in various artists' salons from 1860. The pieces created at the end of the 19th century bear the stamp of the foundry Société les Bronzes de Paris. It is said to have passed away in 1943, but not all experts confirm this date.
