Edmond Etling et Cie - 'Nue au Bras Tendu'. Art Déco Opalescent Glass Statuette

About the Item

An Art Déco opalescent glass statuette of a draped nude with her arm outstretched. Mounted on a stepped nickeled base. Signed "Etling France" in the mold. Designed by sculptor Lucile Sevin for the Parisian retailer Edmond Etling whose gallery was at 29 Rue de Paradis in the 10ème arrondissement. This model was available with or with out a metal base and sometimes with an illuminated metal base. Many examples can vary in the richness of opalescence and coloration. This was unable to be controlled effectively during the manufacturing process. This example has a lovely luminous opalescence that varies from white, blue & amber depending on the light source. The surface is polished but examples exist with a matte surface. It was also produced in colourless glass. This statuette is purported to have been also sold as a car mascot and is sometimes named "Isadora', a reference to dancer Isadora Duncan. This has not yet been accurately documented.

His work was skillfully implemented and distributed by art publisher Edmond Etling. For a time, Sévin was artistic director of the Etling company. Her husband, the sculptor Jean Théodore Delabassé, also worked for Etling. Sévina also worked with glass, ceramics and porcelain. Her sculptures of dancers in frosted and iridescent milky glass like Isadora Duncan of 1925 were made for Etling in a glass factory in Choisy-le-Roi. Sévin exhibited at the Salon of the Society of French Artists in Paris and became a member of the Society. Lucille Sévin won the bronze medal in 1932 and the gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris 1937. She also exhibited her works at the Society of the Salon d'Automne in Paris. • French Art Deco Opalescent Glass Table or Desk Lamp with Stylish Bison Sculpture
    By Edmond Etling
    Located in Lisse, NL
Rare and stylish bison sculpture lampby EDMOND ETLING. This beautiful and truly artistic Art Deco table lamp comes with the signature "Etling France" and model number. Edmond Laurent Etling (23 June 1878 – around 1940) was a French art dealer, gallery owner, designer and a manufacturer of high-quality decorative objects made of bronze, ceramics and art glass in the Art Deco style. His company La Societe Anonyme Edmond Etling, founded in Paris in 1909, manufactured decorative objects and commissioned sculptors and artists, including Georges Béal, Demétre Chiparus, Claire Colinet, Armand Godard, Geneviève Granger, Marcel Guillard, Maurice Guiraud-Rivière, Géza Hiecz, Fanny Rozet, and Lucille Sévin. Other artists that worked with Etling for casting their statuettes included Aurore Onu, Marcel Bouraine, Pierre Le Faguays, Raymonde Guerbe and André Vincent Becquerel. Etling is known for light blue opalescent objects such as plates and bowls, which were also produced in gray and frosted glass. Most items bore the cast signature "Etling France" followed by a model number related to the Choisy-le-Roi catalogue. In 1910, Etling was awarded the diplome d'honneur at Brussels International (1910). In 1923, he was awarded the Grand Prix in Paris. In 1940, Etling closed his shop due to World War II. Because Etling was of Jewish descent, he was sent to a Nazi concentration camp, where he died. This early 1900s, sculptural table lamp clearly has many typical bison features making it easy to tell from further away as well. The overal design and opalescent colors of this bison on a hand carved wooden base makes this work of lighting art an absolute joy to own and look at. And with the light switched on, this art glass table lamp creates a warm light that makes every room an even greater pleasure to be in. This is the ideal light for a (private) library or for a desk, but this bison sculpture beauty also makes a great gift. This work of art table lamp is rewired to the highest standard for safe and immediate usage the world over and when purchased by an American client we will also attach an American power plug so it can be used and enjoyed upon arrival. Mind you, our price for this rare light includes perfect packing (in a custom made and strengthened box) and also worldwide shipping from our store to your door in just 4 to 6 days.
