Post War Lalique 'Chrysis' Statuette 1950s

About the Item

A post war Lalique 'Chrysis' crystal statuette modeled as a kneeling nude with arched back and her hair flowing in the wind. Signed "LALIQUE FRANCE" to the underside of base. First introduced in 1931, this figure was produced as a car mascot as well as a statuette/paperweight. The base of the mascot had a ridge molded around the base to facilitate the radiator cap fitment. This example is not a recent or modern piece. Dating from the mid 20th Century, the details are well defined & crisply moulded. Modern examples lack this definition in the face, hair and dare I say, the perkiness of her breasts. In Greek mythology, Chrysis (Chryseis) was said to be the beautiful daughter of a Trojan priest of Apollo named Chryses. Chrysis would become the prize of Agamemnon, the Achaean leader during the Trojan wars.
