About the Item

A large impressive original parcel gilt and silvered 19th century bronze sculpture by Georges Charles Coudray of a female Egyptian harpist, “Tahoser”. The statue which rests on a self molded circular base is signed : Coudray and bears the foundry seal of the Société des Bronzes de Paris. The statue also bears the original title plaque. The finely chased details, soft curves and sinuous lines of the figure are captured with delicacy, inviting the viewer to appreciate the natural form and sensual energy. The graceful pose of the woman draped elegantly yet seductively, her head tilted, her mouth slightly open while singing, her gaze cast downward, and her hands gracefully strumming the harp strings with the Pharaoh's head decorating the base of the harp, adds to the sense of poise, poetry and refinement. The contrapposto pose and the subject's musical expression exudes confidence in the subject's own beauty Smooth and gleaming, the surface of the sculpture with its warm two tone parcel gilt and silver patina further enhances its overall aesthetic, creating a sense of timelessness and sophistication. Coudray was a French sculptor and medalist born in Paris in 1862 and died in 1944. He studied under Thomas and Falguière. Coudray exhibited frequently in Paris between 1883 and 1903. This model was exhibited in the Paris Salons in 1892. The parcel gilt and silver over bronze is a rare finish. There are more common and smaller size versions of this bronze. Asian Modern, Minimalist, Art Deco, Middle Eastern, industrial, Italian, figurative, Art Nouveau, Belle Epoque movement, Boho Chic. Base footprint measures : 8" round
