About the Item

A charming French 19th century Louis XVI st. patinated bronze and marble statue, signed Auguste Moreau. The statue is raised by a fine circular marble base. The bronze above depicts a lovely scene of a young boy courting a charming young girl. They are sitting on a rock where the signature is displayed, both draped in fine flowing garments. She is holding a bouquet while the young boy is seemingly leaning in for a kiss. Wonderfully subject matter and fine attention to detail throughout. Auguste Moreau (1834-1917), son of artist Jean-Baptist Moreau, Auguste was a renowned 19th century Parisian sculptor.Moreau attended l’École des Beaux Arts in Paris, and debuted in 1861 exhibiting often at the Exposition Universelle in France.
