About the Item

A charming and uncommon Danish mid-century art pottery eskimo figure made by Hyllested Keramik and dating from around 1960. This highly collectable figure is referenced by some as representing a Greenland eskimo and others as Inuit and the black stoneware hand crafted figure portrays a simple and slightly abstract representation of a seated eskimo wearing a hooded white glazed, possibly bearskin overalls. The feet and face use the natural contrasting clay with the latter with simple hand carved facial features. The base of the figure is also unglazed and bears impressed makers marks Hyllested Denmark. Provenance: Acquired from the UK Art Market. In good condition with light wear associated with age and use.
