About the Item

A stunning and high quality Italian late 19th century Alabaster statue titled 'Musing Girl Sitting', signed Emilio Fiaschi. This exceptional statue is raised on an oval rock and wave like base supporting the maiden above. A striking Lyre displaying wonderful scrolled and seashell decorations lays to her side, while her meticulously sculpted hands resting on her knees. She is dressed in a classical garment showcasing intricate folds and a Greek Key trim. Her dress cascades down her left shoulder while being delicately held by a circular fibula on the right. She displays a pensive expression, as if composing a song in her mind, while wearing a laurel crown in her tied back hair. Emilio Fiaschi (1858–1941) was an Italian sculptor known for his finely detailed marble and alabaster works, often depicting elegant female figures and historical subjects in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Based in Florence, he gained recognition for his refined craftsmanship and classical influences, contributing to the popularity of Italian decorative sculpture during the Belle Époque.
