Japanese antique stone Buddha /Kannon Bodhisattva / late 19th-early 20th century

About the Item

This stone statue of Nyoirin Kannon was created between the end of the Edo period and the Taisho period (late 19th century to early 20th century). The Nyoirin Kannon is a Buddha image with a compassionate and peaceful expression that offers salvation to sentient beings, and is widely popular in Japan for its benefits of wish fulfillment and the bestowing of wisdom. A photo of the wooden Nyoirin Kannon statue at the Nara National Museum is included for reference. This stone Buddha is in an extremely well-preserved condition, and the detailed carvings are clear and beautifully finished. Holding a lotus flower or jewel in his hand and resting one hand on his cheek, the figure is full of grace and compassion. Although the focus of attention tends to be on older works from the 17th and 18th centuries, this work is of a comparatively later date, yet it is no less graceful and complete. The back of the piece is either missing or has been intentionally chipped off, but there is no problem with viewing it. It can be placed at the entrance, in the garden, under the eaves of the roof, or in a collection room indoors. It is a highly recommended product.
