Italian Golden Peach/Plum/Fruit & White Leaves in White Basket Ceramic Topiary
Located in Clifton Forge, VA
What a fun addition this gold & white fruit (which look like peaches or plums to me) & leaf topiary would be to any space or décor! Gold & white are both neutral colors and ones you can never have enough of. The topiary stands an impressive 20 inches high and the lush gold contrasts perfectly with the stark white and complements the impressed basket weave on the base which is classic and homey. I do not see any chips or breaks to this piece but there is some rubbing and minor loss to the gold which is not immediately noticeable but I have tried to photograph it. Thank you for visiting The Moody...

Rare Meissen Rococo Genre Group 'The Happy Parents', by M V Acier, Circa 1860
Located in Vienna, AT
Exceptional Meissen porcelain group of the 19th century: Young mother in elaborate Rococo house dress: Ruched wide long skirt, bodice, fitted frilled coat with hood, the upswept hair covered by a high voluminous bonnet with ruched hem and bows, sitting on a splendid Louis XVI style bench and placing her right foot on a stool, beside her the happy spouse in frock coat, waistcoat over frilled shirt and knee breeches with white stockings, both embracing each other at the back and looking down at the baby wrapped in cloth and lying half naked on a cushion on both their laps, the father guiding his right hand to the mother's chin in an affectionate gesture. Behind them a little boy in a playsuit and hat, holding a bowl and blowing soap bubbles with a tube. The group is based on an oval natural base with sculpted flowers and foliage and gold heightened lateral frieze decoration. Particularly elaborate, detailed design and staffage. Designed by MICHAEL VICTOR ACIER (1736 - 1799) Skilled as a sculptor in Paris, he received a call to the porcelain manufactory in Meissen in 1764, and was there, after Kändler's death in 1775, solely responsible for the artistic interests of the manufactory. He created a large number of groups in the Watteau style...

Set of Four Egyptian Antiquities, Pair of Sarcophagus Faience & Two Figurines
Located in New York, NY
This captivating authentic Egyptian Faience set was realized in ancient Egypt circa 3100 BCE. It offers two sarcophagus figurines- suggestive of miniature versions of King Tut's tomb- hand finished in a beautiful turquoise hue (a glaze created by pulverizing the stone into pigment). Additionally, the set features two figurines (one representative of the Egyptian god Anubis), and the other seemingly a depiction of one of the ruler's as a young child also in a turquoise glaze atop volumetric rhombus plinths with tapered sides in a refined terra cotta hue. Full of historical importance (and stunning as stand alone objects) this collection of Egyptian antiquities...

Meissen Large Allegorical Group 'The Earth' by M.V. Acier, Germany Around 1850
Located in Vienna, AT
Excellent Meissen porcelain group of the 19th century: Depiction of the goddess Kybele, the great Phrygian mother of the gods 'Magna Mater', seated with a mural crown on a reclining lion, holding a cornucopia on her lap, symbol of wealth and abundance, behind her standing on a rock a female cupid presenting a key, surrounded by further three cupids with flowers, crops and rake, symbolising agriculture and the cultivation of the earth. The group is based on an irregular earth and rock base with a gold rim. Kybele usually wears a crown in the shape of a city wall on her head as an attribute and is depicted in castles, monasteries and baroque gardens, especially in the 18th century. In cycles showing the four elements, she embodies the earth. That is why she is often presented with the sun and moon to her right and left. In the other hand she may carry a staff of office, a sceptre, as a symbol of rulership complementing the mural crown. In the other hand she carries a small kettledrum, which may symbolise the noise of her madness or the festivities held in her honour. Often Kybele rides on a lion or a pair of lions, or she rides on a chariot drawn by two lions. Spikes of corn, poppies, flowers or fruit in bowls may also be shown. wikipwdia. Designer: MICHAEL VICTOR ACIER (1736 Versailles - 1799 Dresden) Trained as a sculptor in Paris, he received a call to the porcelain factory in Meissen in 1762: he created a large number of groups in the Watteau style...

Teotihuacan Redware Figure
Located in Chicago, IL
This intriguing redware figure was crafted in 400 A.D. from the ancient Teotihuacan region of Mexico. Earthenware figurines were made in great abundance throughout Teotihuacan's history. After 250 A.D. objects made from clay increased dramatically, serving a wide variety of purposes and functions from religious rituals to burial offerings. Figurines like this commemorated important people and events within the city of Teotihuacan and other parts of Mesoamerica, portraying individuals of different rank and status such as soldiers, merchants, bureaucrats, and occasionally divinities.
