Meissen Gorgeous Rococo Figurine Group: 'A PAIR OF SHEPHERD FIGURINES' manufactured circa 1870 / 80 designed by Ernst August LEUTERITZ (1863 - 65) DESIGNER: Ernst August LEUTERITZ (1818 - 1893) Leuteritz studied at the Academy of Arts in Dresden and was leader of Modeller's Department at Meissen Manufactory in period from 1849 until 1886. Having become Professor in the year 1882, Leuteritz created a large range of items such as figurines, vases, clocks and candlesticks in Rococo as well as in Neo-Classical style: The sculptor is the most productive Meissen modeller of the historical-revival period. Bibliography: Bergmann, Meissener Künstler-Figuren, Erlangen 2010, page 665 SPECIFICATIONS: SUBJECT: SHEPHERD FIGURINES STANDING ON LARGE ROCAILLE BASES -- there is a YOUNG SHEPHERD WEARING A ROCOCO WIG who holds a basket filled with fruits (apples, pears and plums) / he is accompanied by a jumping dog. There is a tricorn hat next to his feet visible. - The lovely elegant Rococo shepherd is wearing a mantle falling down his back, further a jacket with white shirt, knee breeches with stockings and buckled shoes. He has a bag attached to shouldered strap, too. - The shepherd is leaning against a tree. -- there is a YOUNG SHEPHERDESS who holds up her apron in which some fruits (apples, pears and plums) have been gathered. A lovely sheep is visible next to her feet. - The shepherdess supports herself on rock as well as on a tree attached behind her. The lovely girl with headscarf is wearing a long dress with corselette and mentioned apron as well as buckled shoes.
