Modernist Neo Sumerian style Bronze Sculpture of a Centaur, 20th Century

About the Item

A rare and valuable modernist sculpture of a centaur, 20th century. Hand carved out of solid bronze with felted base. D’après Picasso with clear influence from Giacometti and Henry Moore, this piece is unsigned but rife with artistic merit. Note the detail of the face which - in its asymmetry - nods toward the early French cubists. And yet there is a vein of Mesopotamia here, in the figurative creature mythology and in the imprints of the artist’s fingers into bronze. A piece that is at once eerie and comforting.
