Murano glass on copper dove from the 1950s by Archimede Seguso
About the Item
Murano glass on copper dove from the 1950s by Archimede Seguso. Product in good condition with small wear caused by years and use. He immediately began working, becoming a master at the age of 17 in the furnace where his father was a partner, until the crisis of 1929. Then, he founded his own workshop which became the family glass factory and which transformed into Soffieria Barovier Seguso & Ferro and then in 1933 into Seguso Vetri d'Arte, a company that marked the development of glass in the following decades. He collaborated with significant importance with the artistic director and designer Flavio Poli.
Archimede Seguso separated from this family glass factory in 1944, founding his Vetreria Artistica Archimede Seguso. Here he managed to expand by reusing ancient blowing techniques and brought eighteenth-century filigree by reworking it and inventing famous ''Filigrees'' such as ''Lace'', ''Feathers'' etc, as well as experimenting with other techniques with a very varied color palette. He experimented and created glass of great personality with overlapping colors and strong chromatic contrasts in the ''Sommerso'' technique.
Having passed away in 1999, he left numerous of his works, as well as an indelible sign of his creativity, in many contemporary art museums around the world.
