Vintage, decorative and well-proportioned Mexican primitive figure depicting a man seated, with detailed, patterned clothing. The sculpture measures 16 1/4" High x 12" wide x 9 1/2" Deep This figure with headdress, Oaxaca, Mexico, depicting an indigenous man or God. Often portrayed in traditional dress inclusive of headdress, variations of this type of figure is well represented within the antiquity collections of major institutions throughout Europe and the Americas. The archaeological dating of Pre-Columbian antiquities to their periods and cultures is in part achieved by the variations in the representation of the Gods to that specific culture. Combined with consideration to the items craftsmanship, materials and size. Pre-Columbian art refers to the visual arts of indigenous peoples of the Caribbean, North, Central, and South Americas. Dating until the late 15th and early 16th centuries and including the time period marked by Christopher Columbus' arrival in the Americas. This Pre-Columbian Style Mexican Terracotta Statue will enhance any setting.

African Tribal Statue Osseyba or Reliquary Figure Kota Mohongwe Peoples Art
Located in Miami, FL
A fantastically hand-crafted piece by the Kota (or Bakota) tribe who are located in the northeastern region of Gabon. This figure, which is a Mahongwe reliquary figure as exhibited with its truncated almond-shaped face, is made of wound copper, hammered brass and wood. Reliquary figures were used as guardians to protect the revered bones of venerated family ancestors and leaders and ward off unwanted spirits. These figures are meant to embody intense powers and were also commonly used in communal rites and ritual performances. This particular piece came from an American collector who traveled the African continent and collected African artifacts for over 50 years. This piece has a beautiful, organically aged patina acquired naturally over time and use. It is mounted on a custom wooden display stand. We believe it dates back to the early to mid-1900s but could be older. We are listing as 20th century because we did not have it appraised.
