Sits atop a brown and white marble pedestal/base/plinth.
CARVED MARBLE SCULPTURE OF A SLEEPING BABY ON PILLOW.
Features a baby sleeping on a bed holding a tulip flower. The mattress is very well detailed. It's head rests on a pillow showing carved tapestry and tassels on the four corners. The robe, which is resting off the shoulders shows every fold and wrinkle and has carved buttons on the shoulder straps. Fine detail in the face and hair as well as the fingers and toes.
This is a very elegant piece.
Condition: There is a small repair to one of the tassels.

The finely carved sculpture is reminiscent of a depiction of Sleeping Ariadne, popularised by the Roman copy of the Hellenistic original, the former being housed at the Vatican.
