The two wonderfully carved circular white Carrara Marble plaques depict Marte (Mars) and Minerva set on a mottled Gris St. Anne marble backplates. Mars embodies the martial aspects of conflict and is associated with strength, aggression, and military power. He is depicted in armor, symbolizing his role as a protector of Rome. Minerva is the goddess of wisdom, warfare, and the arts, and she corresponds to the Greek goddess Athena.
