About the Item

Sculptural 18th century Italian mecca fragment candlestick with a fossil shell and wulfenite on a polished calcite base. The fragment was originally part of an 18th century Italian candlestick from a historic church. It is mounted with a fossil shell, adorned with wulfenite and placed on a polished calcite base. The fragment artifact has been preserved and transformed by Jean O'Reilly Barlow, the artist and creative director of Interi. The date of manufacture reflects when she transformed the piece and the period shows that the Italian fragment is originally 18th century. The Italian mecca fragment and natural elements are put together in a sculptural form - creating a piece that appears to have evolved together over time. Interpreting the past to create a piece entirely original, evolving in its own right.
