Cinnabar With Quartz From China

About the Item

The lush red crystals juxtaposed in a snowy white and gray matrix are cinnabar, a mercury-rich ore historically found in China where this highly collectible specimen was sourced. Cinnabar was often used in ancient China as a pigment and in traditional medicine as well as prized as a gemstone. This vibrant red mineral has been in use in China for over two millennia and this particular specimen features beautiful, fully formed, lustrous crystals accented by a quartz point jutting overhead. It comes on a 1-3/8"W x 1-3/8"D x 1/2"H lucite base for perfect display. Dimensions: 2-3/4"W x 1-5/8"D x 1-3/4"H, Weight (on base): 161 g
