About the Item
A large malachite rock specimen with intense green and black colors fitted on a wood stand and displayed as a Chinese scholar stone. The gemstone in the vertical botryoidal form was a solid boulder of impressive size and weight. It was polished on all sides revealing the beautiful swirling patterns, brilliant veins in shades of colors. It is displayed on a fitted wood base by an American collector of Chinese scholar rocks. Known as "Peacock Rock" in Chinese, there was a more recent tradition in China (from Qing Dynasty and on) to collect the exotic gemstones such as malachite and turquoise specimen and place them in the study as the viewing stones. It was believed that it has power to bless the family and ward off evils.
A stunning desktop piece that will surely draw visual attention.

Located in Wormelow, Herefordshire
A large scale natural chrysocolla malachite specimen originating from Congo. A rare find, some of the world’s finest malachite comes from Congo. This exceptional mineral has an irregular form that has been moulded by nature over thousands of years. Showcasing a vibrant combination of vivid blues (chrysocolla) and rich greens (malachite), this specimen is a striking sculptural piece for an interior or collector’s cabinet, mounted on a bespoke steel stand for display.

While a popular item for jewels and amulets, the mineral was often ground down and the pigment used as a luscious green paint for architecture or even a vivid green eyeshadow! Chrysocolla is frequently intergrown with other minerals such as quartz and malachite like...
