About the Item

Lenci figurine from the 30s in ceramic. Product in good condition with small wear caused by age and use. In 1927, Lenci began to add to its famous felt dolls ceramic creations, destined to become even more popular, ranging from the well-known "nudini" to figures of elegant and fashionable women, from fantasy characters to animals, from religious images to vases and many other objects. Several artists collaborated to create these models, including Sandro Vacchetti, artistic director of Lenci from 1922 to 1934, Elena König Scavini, Cläre Burchart, Lino Berzoini, Giovanni Riva, Giovanni Ronzan, Teonesto Deabate, Giovanni Pietro Spertini, Marcello Dudovich, Gigi Chessa, Mario Pompei, Nillo Beltrami, Mario Sturani, Giulio Da Milano, Giovanni Grande, Ines Grande, Claudia Formica, Luigi Borione, Camillo Ghigo, Giuseppe Porcheddu, Gino Levi-Montalcini, Abele Jacopi. The publications of the time testify to the high artistic value of Lenci ceramics: in January 1929, for example, the magazine *Domus* published the images of the works *Adolescenti* and *Gli sposi* by Giovanni Grande. In the same year, *Casa bella* devoted ample space to numerous Lenci ceramics, such as *La mucca*, *Susanna*, *La merenda* by Giovanni Grande, *Marianna* by Elena Scavini and *Amor paterno* by Sandro Vacchetti, accompanying them with a long article. Lenci ceramics quickly achieved good success and infused new energy into the Turin company, but unfortunately sales were not enough to lift the financial difficulties of the factory, put to the test by the crisis of 1929. Due to large insolvencies by customers and distributors in the early 1930s, when Lenci employed over six hundred workers, and the international sanctions imposed on Italy during the Abyssinian War, the economic situation of the company worsened further.
