About the Item
Exceptional specimen of malachite freeform on stand.
Malachite is a copper carbonate hydroxide mineral. It is often found in nature together with the related azurite.
Malachite was worked as a gemstone from early times.
In ancient Egypt it was made into cameos, amulets and ornaments. The Greeks and Romans in classical antiquity knew malachite. The pulverized mineral was used as make-up and as a dye for paint.
