Pink, Rose, & Green Watermelon Tourmaline Slice—Erongo Region, Namibia

About the Item

Tourmaline is loved in both the worlds of jewelry and mineral collecting for its expression of color, as well as its propensity for translucency and luster. It’s classified as a semi-precious stone and is famous not just for its intensity of tones, but for its incredible range of colors within single crystals; it is among the world’s most colorful gemstones. This beautiful tourmaline specimen has been cut and polished into a slice in order to reveal its spectacular cross-section of bright colors and wonderfully distinct zoning. It is what’s colloquially known as a “watermelon tourmaline,” and it is a lovely example complete with a green ‘rind.’ It has a prominent core in a vibrant, rose-pink color which is then perfectly framed by a lighter petal pink, and then by a contrasting, colorless zone which is enhanced by the crystal’s nice translucency. Following the colorless zone are three fine and precise color zones. Going outwards, they are vivid green, colorless, and rose-pink. Between its rich colors and sharp contrast, this specimen packs a visual impact that exceeds its size tenfold. This piece comes with a custom stand for display. Reference: #18199.

Seafoam Green Fluorite Crystal Mineral Specimen – Dongpo Ore Field, China
Located in Edison, NJ
This is an attractive example from the Dongpo Ore Field of China. The best Dongpo fluorites are known for translucent crystals with great form and an attractive light green tone. This is a prime example featuring three sharp, cuboctahedral crystals in a saturated, seafoam green tone. The fluorites have multi-stepped faces along their sides and central faces that are smooth, acting like windows into the translucent crystals. The crystals’ lustrous sheen further highlights their intricate structure. They have formed atop a contrasting matrix (host-rock) of bladed, beige dolomite crystals. The dolomite is sharp and has formed in dense intergrown rosettes. Peeking out from under the dolomite and fluorites is a shimmering matrix of druzy, white quartz that frames the piece overall. The juxtaposition of textures, colors, and species makes the already colorful fluorite crystals...
