Pair of French Antique early 18th-century Carved Wooden Gilded Corner Consoles

About the Item

On offer here is a stunning pair of 100% original gold leaf gilt and polished corner consoles, meticulously hand-carved from solid linden wood. Made in southern France around 1710, these consoles are beautifully executed in the Baroque style, featuring a centrally placed shell flanked by scrolls, acanthus, and floral motifs. The top boasts an elegant gadrooned profile. The consoles have always been mounted on the wall at an optimal height, which has preserved the gold leaf remarkably well. The quality of the gilding is extraordinary, especially considering the age of these pieces and it boasts a fantastic metallic shine. The consoles exhibit numerous small woodworm holes throughout. The woodworm has not been active for decades, and we have treated the consoles preventively once more. Additionally, there are some visible shrinkage cracks where the pieces of linden wood were glued together and partially separated. Despite these, the consoles remain structurally very solid. These corner consoles are architectural elements, and given the imprint on one of the consoles, they likely held decorative vases. These exquisite pieces are a testament to fine craftsmanship and timeless elegance.

This antique oak cabinet was crafted in the early 20th century in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia around 1720. The cabinet was entirely built from the finest quality European summer oak. It features two doors and is richly adorned with molding in geometric patterns. The wooden molding was attached to the oanels by the use of pegs. The doors showcase a floral maple inlay. They retain their original hinges, while the lock has been replaced. Inside, on the right-hand side, there are two and a half fixed shelves, and on the left-hand side, there is a hanging section. This cabinet was made from the most exquisite wood available at the time, beautiful European summer oak, displaying a distinctive flame pattern.
