Dating from the late 18th to mid 19th centuries, this wooden mould has been exceptionally hand carved by talented Victorian artisans, these elaborate details originally used to cast details in composition for the frames of pictures and paintings.
This mould is inscribed with design number 4968 to the front and features a beautiful design deeply carved into the wood. This results in a highly ornate and precise compo embellishment that appears as though it has been carved rather than cast. The wooden mould comes with an accompanying custom-made steel display stand.
Christopher Tucker
Christopher Tucker (1941-2022) was an award-winning British make-up artist, specialising in prosthetics for theatre and film. Over his vast career, Tucker worked on a number of famous film and theatrical sets, creating prosthetics for the likes of The Phantom of the Opera, Star Wars and The Company of Wolves as well as the spectacular transformation of John Hurt into The Elephant Man.

Measuring approximately height 22.86 cm / 9 inches by width at the base 18 cm / 7 inches, and depth 12 cm / 4.7 inches. If you are looking for a large crucifix with a not too overwhelming corpus of Christ for your house of prayer or for your home(chapel) then this unique ecclesiastical antique from the late 1800s could be the one. According to the former owner, this ancient bronze-color painted and sizable corpus and cross came from a monastery in Germany. The details in the anatomy of this Christ sculpture are very well carved and they clearly reveil the work of a seasoned carver / sculptor. We were also immediately impressed by the coloring, because the patina on this corpus from a little distance very much resembles the patina of antique bronze sculptures that you can find in every major market square here in Europe. We also particularly appreciate the details in the face and the position of the head of Christ. Both the angle in which He bowes His head and the details in His face are very realistic and they leave a lasting impression. We believe the artist has perfectly captured the moment in which Jesus bowed His head as He died on the cross. The ebonized oak cross is original to this corpus, but we think it was ebonized later in time, because it makes this unique and stunning sculpture stand out better. This solid oak cross has metal-strengthened openings in the back (both atop and at the bottom) via which this crucifix is safe and easy to mount. Because of the quality, the rarity, the large size, the beauty and the deeper meaning we are convinced that this antique crucifix too will find a new home soon. Whether it be in a private home, monastery or in a church, this work of religious art from the late 1800's will never fail to impress. Thanks to the pair of metal hooks on the back, safely mounting this ecclesiastical antique tight to your wall will be very easy to do.
