About the Item

A matching pair of late 19th-century Bohemian glass ewers, crafted from pale turquoise opaline and clear cased glass. The marbled opaline bodies rise from broad, rounded bases to slender necks, terminating in flared, ruffled lips and spouts—a form characteristic of Victorian-era decorative glassware. Both ewers are hand-decorated with applied gilt floral and foliate motifs, with additional gilding accenting the lips, bases, and elegantly shaped gilt glass handles. The fine detailing reflects the high level of craftsmanship typical of Bohemian and Czech glassmakers producing for the European, particularly French, luxury market in the late 1800s. Each ewer stands 29 cm tall with a 14 cm diameter. Both remain in good antique condition, with some fading and light wear to the applied gilt consistent with age and use. An elegant garniture set, showcasing the refinement of hand-decorated 19th-century Bohemian opaline glass.
