About the Item

A pair of vintage Arita Japanese style lidded jars with gold, blue and orange floral motifs. This pair of vintage Arita Japanese style lidded jars is a splendid example of the fine craftsmanship and aesthetic beauty characteristic of traditional porcelain. The jars are adorned with exquisite gold, blue, and orange floral motifs, each color meticulously applied to create a vibrant and harmonious design. These floral patterns are not only visually striking but also symbolize nature's beauty and elegance in Japanese culture. A distinctive feature of these jars is the raised midnight blue scrolling motifs, which add a tactile and visual depth to the pieces. This dark blue provides a striking contrast to the lighter and brighter colors, enhancing the overall richness of the design. The inclusion of these raised motifs showcases the artist's skill in creating a piece that is both visually appealing and texturally intriguing. In a contemporary home, these Arita jars could serve multiple decorative purposes. They could be displayed as a pair on a mantelpiece, credenza, or console table, where their intricate detailing and vibrant colors can be appreciated up close. Alternatively, they could be used as statement pieces in a living room, dining area, or entryway, adding a touch of Japanese elegance and sophistication to the space. For those who appreciate the beauty of Asian ceramics and the artistry of traditional porcelain, these lidded jars are more than just decorative items; they are works of art that bring a piece of Asian heritage into the home, enhancing any interior with their historical beauty and exquisite craftsmanship.

Pair of Antique Japanese Imari Jars Meiji Period Circa 1880
Located in Katonah, NY
Both jars are hand-painted in traditional Imari designs. They feature beautiful waterside scenes painted in cobalt blue and two shades of iron red, all with gilded accents. The colors are vibrant, and the scenes are complex. One jar features a shoreline, while the other scene features a cresting wave. Above the main scenes on each jar, there are medallions adorned with gilded floral decorations. Additionally, a ring of patterns inspired by Japanese textiles encircles the shoulder and base of each jar. The hand-painted panels on the reverse side mirror the designs on the front but include many subtle variations. On the side of each jar, there is a classic Imari depiction of a vase set on a garden terrace. These exquisite pieces were crafted in Japan during the Meiji Period, around 1880. Dimensions: 15" tall x 7" diameter at the widest point Condition: Excellent. Price: $2,800 Background of Late Imari Porcelain: Imari porcelains were first exported from Japan to Europe in the 17th century. In the third quarter of the 19th century, Imari porcelain found an eager export market in Europe as the style was compatible with the colors and designs of the oriental rugs used...
